Camp Petits Musiciens

Valerie’s French Corner is happy to offer “Camp Petits Musiciens”, our first annual French Music Camp for young ones aged 5-7.   As we know, learning French in early childhood enhances a child’s cognitive development and exposes children to the beauty of the French culture.  Similarly, Music education engages children’s natural curiosity, fosters their natural eagerness to learn and eases language acquisition.   A marriage between the two, Music and French, seems all too natural!!

Camp Petits Musiciens provides children the opportunity to develop their musicality through singing, movement, drama and playing instruments ranging from Glockenspiels, Xylophones, Resonating Bells and Piano.  Guided by our music educator Lilly, children will be taught to play and sing some of the most beloved French children’s songs via the Kodaly and Orff methods of teaching music.  As budding French linguists, children will be taught French vocabulary and common French phrases by our French instructor, Valerie.  Through storytelling, songs and games, children will expand their French vocabulary  and knowledge of French.  Our students will be proud to showcase  their new French and Music skills at an end of week concert for  parents and caregivers !

Stay tuned for future camp opportunities

Our wish is to maintain a small “boutique” feel to our camp , and offer a serene and loving home setting. To achieve this end, our camp is operated out of our staff’s home which offers a cozy, air-conditioned environment and plenty of enclosed green space for play. Our teacher - child ratio remains at 1:3 and we run only one camp group of 6 at any one time. Young helpers,(ie: our own grade 6 bilingual daughters!), will be recruited to further ensure that all children’s needs are met and fun is had!!

For  more information and to register for camp, please complete an inquiry form on our Contacts tab or at the bottom of this page and we will get back to you as soon as possible. We look forward to sharing this summer journey with your children!

  • Hi there! My name is Valerie. I am the founder of Valerie’s French Corner and have been tutoring remedial reading to French Immersion students in the Toronto area since 2016. I was raised in a French and Italian speaking family and am tri-lingual. Though I have always loved the Italian language, I gravitated towards the French side of my heritage. As a child I spent summers in Paris and Marseille with family where I quickly fell in love with the warmth of the French people. I was struck by how they hold dear their children and dote on them lovingly. Over the years I fell in love with the language, the culture including its music, food and history. As a young adult I pursued this love in University, graduating with an undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto in French Language and Literature. Upon graduating I worked in Paris --- living around the corner from la tour Eiffel and travelling to work through les Bois de Boulogne each morning. Still to this day, the early days of Spring bring me back to my wonderful stay in Paris! I look forward to sharing my love of the French language and culture with your children!

  • Hi there. My name is Lilly Muir. I am a mother, educator, and music enthusiast. My love of music began at a young age with classical music streaming regularly in my home, piquing my interest in the world of music. Throughout my youth I took piano lessons, participated in many music festivals, competitions and recitals. I have obtained my First Class Honours in Grade 8 piano, and my First Class Honours in Grade 10 flute, both from the Royal Conservatory of Music. I later obtained an Honours Degree in Music Education from McMaster University and immediately followed that with a Bachelors of Education from Nipissing University. I recently retired from the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District school board after 30 years as a primary and junior classroom teacher and music educator. In this new stage of life, I have turned my attention to homeschooling a small group of students in Georgetown. I have the joy of bringing my love of music to the Homeschool as I have established their first Homeschool choir! The choir sings every month at our local church and we have sung for various events connected with the church. I believe that learning music should be fun, active and creative and am thrilled to welcome your children to join me on a beautiful musical journey this summer
